Zojirushi NS-RNC10 Automatic 5.5-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer Review

Zojirushi NS-RNC10 Automatic 5.5-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Zojirushi cooker (both our old and this new one) does a splendid job cooking white and brown rice to the right consistency if properly prepared. The stay warm feature is great! We can cook a full pot of rice and leave it in the cooker for a couple of days and it stays warm and fresh. [Of course, you need to be careful to use common sense precautions to make sure you don't cause an environment where bacteria breed (i.e., like using unclean serving utensils).] The price may seem a little steep, but since we will use it nearly every day for years (like to old one), it's well worth the price.
We had used a 10 cup Zojirushi rice cooker/warmer for about four years until I damaged the nonstick liner by rinsing rice in it (oops!). When I contacted the company to see about getting a replacement liner, I was told it was $50 plus shipping! After an internet search, I found this 5.5 cup Zojirushi for a nominal amount more money.
We eat a lot of rice - almost daily, but honestly, a 5.5 cup cooker is just the right size for a family of 4 to 6. (We had never made 10 full cups of uncooked rice in the old cooker.) My mom's the connoisseur of rice brands - her rice always comes out perfect each time. Also over the many years she's cooked rice - what use to take some time and constant watching on the stove to get the perfect rice, the cooker/warmer does very efficiently without the worry of burning the rice.
As additional info for those who don't cook much rice, we use to cook white rice but now we cook brown rice. Took getting use to the switch to brown rice, but now we prefer it. We soak the brown rice for about 1/2 to 2 hours in water before cooking it and add a little more water than for white rice. (I believe the recipe that comes with the cooker says this.) It's not as difficult as I'm probably making it out. And, finally, you want to make sure you don't use metal utensils, abrasive cleaners, or abrasive scouring pads in the non-stick liner (or wash your rice in it!) to prolong its life.

Average Reviews:

I bought this crockpot after my Rival blew itself up (shorted out) in only a year and I decided I did not want to go Rival again. We are 4 big eaters and I thought this larger size would be all the better for my family. This crock is not for the faint of heart (or novice crockpotter). It cooks very fast and needs to be very full. I used to cook a 5 lb chicken in my old Rival in 8-10 hours, well 8 hours later in the hamilton Beach, I had chicken dust. It was almost comical. I lifted the chicken out of the crockpot and the bones remained. I should say that it still tasted very good - just the texture was very soft. If you're used to cooking in a smaller or Rival brand - you'll have to relearn all your recipes. On the plus side - it really simmers a fullpot of meat sauce or pot roast. No worry of anything being underdone with this baby. Crock pot experts go for it.

Rival SCE500WM 5-Qt Embossed Stoneware Crock-Pot Slow Cooker Review

Rival SCE500WM 5-Qt Embossed Stoneware Crock-Pot Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

I was thrilled to receive this from my thoughtful 90 year old mother-in-law for Christmas. Green is my kitchen color and the clear lid enables checking on the cooking process without removing the lid. I also like that it is oval and more horizontal than vertical. My old crock pot was top heavy and often tipped in the car if not secured. I put it to use immediately. Unfortunately, although used according to directions, the liner developed a hairline crack after the first use. I called Rival and they instructed me to return it to the store as defective. Well, not wanting to upset my mother-in-law and create a commotion, that may be tricky to do...I wish they had been more responsive. After all, they sold their product. Now it is at my inconvenience to make it right. They should have sent a new liner.

I've had this slow cooker for 2 years, and it's burned nearly everything for this time. You can't set this while you're at work, which is the reason to buy a slow cooker. This item loses moisture and runs far too hot for what it's designed for. Buy something better.

Aroma 3 Quart or 4-20 Cups Rice Cooker & Food Steamer with Sensor Logic Technology - Recipe Book Included Review

Aroma 3 Quart or 4-20 Cups Rice Cooker and Food Steamer with Sensor Logic Technology - Recipe Book Included
Average Reviews:

We got this rice cooker from Costco for $30 and let me tell you it is the best $30 I have ever spent. In fact I would have paid a $100 or more for this cooker. We've only had it for 2 months and use it almost daily. It makes perfect rice every time. There are seperate functions for brown and white rice. However I find the brown rice still comes out pretty darn good in the white rice mode. A definate improvment from other cookers we had that would leave the brown rice hard and crunchy.
I read some reviews of this cooker burning rice if left in the warm mode too long. The longest we've left it to warm was 5hrs and we didn't have any problems. Maybe if we left it longer it might have burned, but who knows.

Crockpot 6-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cookers Review

Crockpot 6-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cookers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Contrary to the August 29, 2005 reviewer's comments about "operator
error", this crock pot truly has a problem with heating at too high of a level, to a point of being dangerous (and yes, I did read the instruction book!). I have been using crock pots for 26 years, and never had any meals burn. This particular pot burned each of the four meals I made with it, and I used recipes which I have been making for years in my older Rival model of the same size. The last straw was when I came home to a somewhat smokey kitchen caused by a meal which burned after only 4 1/2 hours of cook time on LOW (I suppose the HI setting would be useful for launching rockets to the moon?). Had I not come home until closer to the usual 8 to 10 hours cook time for that particular recipe, I might not have had a home to walk into!
I agree with reviewer J. Jarrard - my foods burned primarily on just one side of the crock. The heating element is not only too hot, but it also heats unevenly.
I have read in other reviews that in recent years Rival has set the temperature of their pots higher for food safety purposes. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, what other options are out there (i.e. - other brands, or perhaps other Rival models which don't have this problem)? Thanks!

6-Quart Oval Crock Pot (Stainless Steel) Review

6-Quart Oval Crock Pot (Stainless Steel)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I actually own the black version of this pot, which has apparently been discontinued in favor of the stainless steel. Aside from the color of the skin and slightly different knobs and handles on the base, they are identical.
The controls are very easy to use. You turn it on, set your temperature (HI or LO) punch the clock button to set the time (minimum is 4 hours) then press COOK. That's it! It shows the remaining cooking time on the display, and once the time is up, the cooker will beep and then switch to warming mode to keep the food from going cold or overcooking. The only thing I don't like is there is no delay timer. You can't set it to come on in four hours and then cook for another four hours.
The cord is a bit on the short side, but according to the manual that's for safety. You can use an extension cord if necessary. I have not noticed any uneven heating or hot spots in the base. The skin does get hot to the touch, so make sure there's nothing flammable around and that it is out of reach of children and pets. I don't think it would get hot enough to scorch the counter top, but I use mine on a jelly roll pan with two trivets underneath in case it boils over.
The crock is removable for cleaning. It's made of glazed ceramic and is very heavy. It is large enough to fit a whole fryer chicken as long as you truss the bird. You can use it in the microwave and put it in the refrigerator, but not use it in the oven or on the stove top. The lid fits well.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with my purchase. If you don't care about the looks, keep an eye out for the discontinued black model if you can find it on clearance. I bought mine for less than twenty dollars brand new and consider it money well spent.

Aroma ARC-733G 3-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer Review

Aroma ARC-733G 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Food Steamer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a cheap, nice little rice cooker that just works. Here are some tips from the instruction manual:
1. This appliance is NOT dishwasher safe. Inner pot and accessories are NOT dishwasher safe. (i.e. that stuck-on rice that happens to every rice cooker at some point? yeah, don't try using your dishwasher to get it out.)
2. Always make sure the outside of the inner pot is dry prior to use. If inner cooking pot is returned when wet, it may damage this product, causing it to malfunction.
Also, interestingly, it's pretty much a disposable appliance unfortunately. That is, for the fifteen bucks you buy it for here on Amazon (esp. if you have Prime shipping for free), if it breaks, you can return it to the manufacturer, but Aroma Housewares Company [...] for shipping and handling charges.
I also find one other instruction particularly interesting: "Do not use the appliance for other than its intended use." Take that, Jack Bauer.

Panasonic SR-MS102 Fuzzy-Logic 5-Cup Rice Cooker, White Review

Panasonic SR-MS102 Fuzzy-Logic 5-Cup Rice Cooker, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This rice cooker is fantastic. I bought and kept this (and returned the others) after trying this along with two other rice cookers - Zojirushi NP-HBC10 and Sanyo ECJ-HC55S. Please note that I had selected even the other two after much research and they, in their own place, are amongst the best rice cookers that you can buy.
This one cooks rice as well as or better than the others and much faster. I use this mainly to cook brown rice - the Sanyo took about 90 minutes for two cups of brown rice, the Zojirushi took about (or more than) 100 minutes and this one takes just 60 - 65 minutes.
This one has more functions than any other cooker (Rice cooker, steamer, slow cooker, warmer, porridge maker, cake maker, sushi and more).
This one looks the best by far and its Menu and LCD are better than the others. This has a fantastically stylish smooth body with a super cool Orange LCD with Black LEDs with no ghost digits (prominent and clear black digits on Orange with no shadows from the unused digits - looks very cool and sophisticated). The colour scheme and over all look is by far the most modern and stylish.
The Panasonic while being the fastest, best looking and most feature packed machine as compared to the Zojirushis and Sanyos is the one that costs the least !
The steamer tray supplied with this is better that the Sanyo's as it is deeper and does not sit on the bottom of the inner pan (mess from the tray legs dipping in the boiling water in the Sanyo) but sits on the top rim of the inner pan and hangs, with sufficient clearance from the boiling water - this is important because close proximity to the boiling water amounts to greater loss of vitamins from the vegetables being steamed. The Zojirushi does not have a steamer tray or dedicated steaming function for that matter.
While the Zojirushi makes rice as well as any other machine and it has the proclaimed GABA brown rice setting, it is exorbitantly priced and takes much longer to cook. The Sanyo is priced closer to this one but the Panasonic's design, looks (style, very good LCD and colour scheme and buttons), performance (cooking time and quality of the brown rice) pleased me much more than the Sanyo's. Panasonic's electronics is unparalleled - it is evident in the details like a much better LCD screen, best readability (and aesthetics) and this one remembers your last menu choice even after being powered off (unlike the others which reset to the 'White rice' option).
And, from researching on the net, I found that in general Panasonic rice cookers last much longer than any other brand.
So far I have only cooked brown rice in this and it came out fantastic every time. I am eager to try out the plethora of other options available on this rice cooker and go a bit further with my creativity which is made possible by the unmatched versatility of this wonderful piece of equipment.
One thing I would like to let prospective buyers know is that the inner lid on this one is aluminium (as is the Sanyo's). So, if avoiding aluminium cookware is high on your priority than this could be a concern. However, there is hardly any contact of the lid with the food and so it did not matter too much to me. The Zojirushi I bought was the top of the line amongst Zojirushis and was the only rice cooker I found which had a stainless steel (and not aluminium) inner lid.
Overall, this was a winner by far in terms of unbeatable value, top quality and dependability. It brings a smile on my face everyday due to its functionality and beauty. I highly recommend this rice cooker.

Zojirushi NP-GBC05 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer with Induction Heating System Review

Zojirushi NP-GBC05 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer with Induction Heating System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this rice maker for about 7 months. I vacillated for over a year before making my purchase--not only was the price scaring me off, but this model had been on the market for a while and I wanted to see if anything new and even better came out. However, when I read the mediocre reviews of the newest Zojirushi models--and prices nearing $450!--I thought it was about time I bit the bullet and shelled out for this rice cooker.
This was possibly THE best purchase I've made in the past five years. I ended up getting it for about $30 less via the auction site that everyone's familiar with, but Amazon's price is pretty darn competitive. I opted for the 3-cup model because I'm by myself most of the year and wanted something that could handle smaller batches (as little as 1/2 cup in this case!) for when I'm just cooking for myself, but had the flexibility to handle larger quantities. This size is perfect for a 1-4 person household (3 cups of cooked rice is closer to 6 servings). Ease of use is amazing. I've made short-grain Japanese rice, short-grain brown rice, rice and azuki beans, and mixed-grain rice (a blend of brown and wild rices, in various combinations over the months I've had it). I use it pretty much every night for rice, and almost every morning for my favorite use of this machine: the most perfect steel-cut oatmeal you could possibly ask for. I did get a rice-cooker cookbook to help me fine-tune my ratios, but I find that the best oatmeal is if you use 1.5:1 water/oatmeal ratio, then stir in 1/2 c. whole milk once it's done cooking and let it "warm" for another 5 min. I have had rave reviews about my oatmeal and it's so. darn. easy.
Like another reviewer mentioned, if you add in flavors (in my case, cinnamon/vanilla for the oatmeal, I haven't played around much with savory fare save for plain rice) there's a bit of a ghost of that flavor the next time you make plain rice. I think it might be because of the silicone seal to the steamer lid. I don't mind it much, and I suppose if you're VERY sensitive to any sort of flavor (it only lasts the one batch) you could run a small (1/2 c.) batch first to "steam" out the flavors--this seems wasteful to me, but it's an idea to try if this is an issue for you.
The rice itself comes out absolutely perfect. You'll be amazed at how much flavor this little machine draws out of white rice and brown rice. I was never a huge fan of brown rice (too mealy/chewy) but when I make it in this bad boy, it's so, so good. You'll be a convert!
My favorite part of this machine is the cleanup. If an appliance is too fiddly to clean, I know it'll end up gathering dust--but this machine couldn't be easier. There's a detachable inner lid that catches the splash from the cooking rice that I wash right away, and I remove the steam cover in the back (this sounds arcane, but it's snapping two things off and takes about 3 seconds; the manual is great for explaining it). Then I let the actual nonstick bowl dry out. You heard me--I let it dry on there. Then, it's as easy as wiping out the rice "paper" film you've made with a paper towel. Seriously. Even with oatmeal that would normally cake on there: don't soak, don't scrub, just wait for it to dry. The couple times it's stuck, I just fill it with warm water in the sink for 15min and it washes right off. The nonstick on this bowl is absolutely fantastic. I'm very careful never to bring anything metallic in contact with it, but I hear through the grapevine that Zojirushi is excellent about shipping out replacement parts if you ever need them.

Sanyo HPS-MC3 3-in-1 Nonstick Electric Multi-Cooker
Average Reviews:

I am cheap (Asian), and was not keen on plopping down $100 on this cooker. Totally worth it. I got it after I saw some little old ladies at 99 Ranch buying one!
Cooks hot pot like a CHAMP. I was using a single burner with a divided hot pot pot (lol) on top and I had to boil a separate pot the stove to keep up with demand (feeding 4 adults). No more! This thing is sooo convenient. Super easy to adjust the temperature and it heats up quickly.
Nice safety feature that it has a magnetic power cord, in case someone trips over it or you have kids. It stays on just fine.
Also works great as a steamer.
The finish is conducive to easy cleanup.
The grill part...well, I mean...it's essentially a one-sided George Foreman grill. Nothing too special there--but it is very easy to clean.
Buy it! You know if the old Chinese ladies at 99 Ranch were buying, it HAS to be good.
**Update**
Owned it now for almost a year. Still going strong, still highly recommended. It even saved me through a stove issue (2 weeks for the new part to arrive). There are a lot of things you can make with this cooker, I have to say.

Deni 9770 Electric Pressure Cooker, 2 Quart Review

Deni 9770 Electric Pressure Cooker, 2 Quart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great gadget, and much quieter, than any of my other models. I received it and immediately started putting it through its paces. First the water test, it went perfectly, probably did not even "lose" one tablespoon of water. Then made chicken soup, steel cut oatmeal, then black beans, all from scratch; all the food came out perfect.

I could not wait for them to come out with a smaller cooker and was so happy that this came out. As soon as I saw this little baby, I ran down the hall and got my credit card. I am so glad I did.
I foresee no problem using this unit, for me it is the perfect size for many of my recipes. This is my third electronic model, I have several larger ones from other brands, only because there was no smaller electronic choices. I also have had four stove top models which I now rarely use due to the greater ease and safety of the electronic versions.

This model has a DIY, do-it-yourself, option where you can set the cook time for up to 99 minutes (very nice for pull pork or pull chicken). No need to reset the time as with my older, larger electronic cookers). It also has a preset button, which is a delay timer (for up to 9 hours) and a keep warm (for up to 24 hours). All very handy.
The only problem I have had with it is the power cord going into the pot. If it is not firmly pushed in, it will still look like it is plugged into the pot, but it can get disengaged very easily. So if it looks like you have no power, double check that connection, and all should go well for you too.

Pressure cooker is awesome.
Slow cooker is great.
Steamer, no sure yet. In an effort to steam rice it requires that you buy a steamer rack from a third party that are all bigger than advertised. Then you have to buy a bowl. I have tried it once and am not impressed but am still trying.

People who are addicted to Zojirushi may change their mind when they discover how great the Sanyo ECJ models are!! I have the ECJ-F50S, pretty much the same as the D55S but with a thicker titanium coating--3.5 mm!! The 5.5 cup only has 2.5 mm thick titanium coating. It's super durable and cooks rice perfectly! We have been using rice cooker our whole life and this is the best we have used so far! If size doesn't really matter, go for the 5 Cup F50s model, that one is much better!
