IMCG SMOC2 SimmerMat blue heat diffuser Review

IMCG SMOC2 SimmerMat blue heat diffuser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The simermat is rather thin. From the picture, I expected some heavy cast iron something. My initial impression was not great. BUT, then we used the simmermat. It really does what is advertised. Having a gas stove, we have always had to precariously stack two or three stove burner racks on top of one another, and still could not simmer without sticking and scorching. Excuse my terminology. I may not describe with the proper part names, but you get the picture. Well, after using the simmermat three times I asked, "what do you think?". My wife's answer was "Buy another one!" So here I am, leaving a comment, and buying another one.

WMF Stainless Steel Expandable Trivet Review

WMF Stainless Steel Expandable Trivet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Stainless steel is the way to go and is what my first expandable trivet is made, with twelve plastic caps for the SS legs.to sit on and not produce any scratches. I bought it purposely for use in the bottom of my HB slow cooker. It fits and does its job perfectly. When cooking is done it's fairly easy to clean.
Quite expandable it will serve many other uses. Should last almost a lifetime. Shipping was ahead of schedule. Highly recommended.UPDATE: Not highly recommended since the plastic caps I found, after first one fell out, ooze faulty black adhesive and black gook will line your cooker. ...the next 11 (loose) I pulled out myself. Smarten up: Stainless is great - but mfr. should un-gook those horrid leg-caps. Might even be POISON!

Hamilton Beach 32182 18 Quart Roaster Oven Review

Hamilton Beach 32182 18 Quart Roaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased two, one for me one for my mom. One arrived with a small ding in the lid. Not big enough to go through any hassle. The metal is thin and flimsy, but I bet they all are. I've used mine once so far to warm up a large quantity of spaghetti sauce that had been refrigerated overnight. It took a long time to warm up and cook on the stove, as it did to reheat it the next day in the roaster oven. The cord is extremely short, so I had to use an extension cord on the buffet table. The roaster holds enough sauce to serve about 60 people.
I had read reviews of other roaster ovens so I knew that the first time you turn it on there would be a smell. The manual does mention it, but does not tell you what to do about it. So before using it for my sauce, I filled less than half full of water and heated it for several hours on 200 until the smell dissipated. After that, all you could smell was my yummy sauce.
I will have to write another review when I find out if a turkey really will fit in there. So far, it's served its purpose and I'm pleased. I would have been happier if it were available in local stores like Target or Walmart so I wouldnt have had to pay ridiculous shipping charges.

Nesco 4808-90 Limited Edition Anniversary Roaster, Porcelain Coated Cookwell, 18-Quart Review

Nesco 4808-90 Limited Edition Anniversary Roaster, Porcelain Coated Cookwell, 18-Quart
Average Reviews:

I have been wanting one of these roasters for a while and decided to go with Nesco because everyone I know uses this kind. I used it a few days ago to roast a 15 lb turkey (with plenty of room left over!). I followed the recipe that came with the roaster and it came out perfect. 2 cons: it takes up a lot of room when stored and it can be difficult to clean. I soaked the pan in hot soapy water for about 20 minutes and I still had to use a lot of elbow grease. Oh well, it was worth it to keep my kitchen cool! It is also a nice looking roaster, love the color.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron 5 Quart Oval French Ovens Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron 5 Quart Oval French Ovens
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We were reluctant to spend the money on this french oven but it was worth every penny. It heats up evenly and browns meat beautifully. We use this 5qt. french oven to make great one pot meals (4 servings). Just last night we made braised short ribs that were mouthwatering. We often use this pan on the stove for browning or searing and then transfer the dish to the oven for further cooking. Other times we use it for slow cooking on the stove. Clean up with the pan is super easy. Everything just wipes right out. The pan is really heavy but that's what makes it cook so well. My wife used to hate to cook (I used to be the only cooking enthusiast in the family) but she loves this french oven because all her recipes come out tasting so good.

Since 1925, Le Creuset has been handcrafting Enameled Cast Iron cookware, and particularly Round French Ovens (or Dutch Ovens), in Northern France. While this popular shape has been around for many centuries before that, the basic design has changed very little thus endorsing the cooking qualities that it provides. Generation after generation has come to cherish the Le Creuset Round French Oven's quality, durability, and versatility, and it easily becomes the core piece in any well-equipped kitchen. The cast iron provides superb heat retention and distribution, and the enamel is hard-wearing and non-reactive, making the number of recipes that you can do in this pot endless: anything from savory rice to braised chicken to mouth-watering cake. Your imagination is the only limit!

This is my third Foreman grill. The non-stick coating on the previous two eventually wore out, probably because I was using marinades that adhered to strongly. If you just want to grill burgers and chops, this will do it. The only drawback in this inexpensive model is that the plates are not submersible.

Pinzon Electronic Clock Timer Review

Pinzon Electronic Clock Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Polder Electronic Clock, Timer, Stopwatch combination several years ago and paid around $16. (It has currently been lowered to $14 - $16, depending on the color) I loved the product and would have liked to have gotten more, but the price was more than I cared to spend. When searching through Amazon's kitchen gadgets, I noticed the Pinzon Electronic Clock Timer appeared remarkably similar. Needing an additional $7 to qualify for free shipping, the extra $2 to have another timer seemed reasonable.
When this timer arrived, I laid it next to my Polder and the two are absolutely identical, with the exception of the blank space which located on the center, bottom of the unit and is just to the left of the display screen. The Pinzon timer's is blank, the Polder timer has their name imprinted there.
The multiple functions on this timer are extremely useful. I particularly like the fact that the timer continues to "buzz" for a long period of time after it goes off. (It does stop buzzing after what seems like several minutes.) I sometimes neglect to carry the timer with me and don't hear it immediately which can have disasterous results if a timer shuts off after a minute. Further, once the timer goes off, the unit begins to count up so that the user actually knows by what length of time they missed the mark. This is useful when baking since it allows the user to know how "off" their product may be due to overcooking. Additionally, the timer allows one to set it for lengthy periods, unlike some older timers which limit one to 99 minutes. The portability feature is useful - I like the magnet on the back which allows me to stick this up on the metal door in the garage when I am working outside.
My husband finds the stopwatch/count up function useful when he is doing his physical therapy. He can sit the unit on the bench and watch it count up the 10 seconds he is to hold his stretches - saves continually setting the timer or having to count and then getting distracted and losing count.
The clock setting instructions are unclear, but I found a comment on Amazon's site with the trick to setting the time. Hold down the clock button until the time clears. Then enter the numbers as follows: enter two digits for each unit of time, using leading zeros when the number is a single digit. For example, if it is 8:15:09 am, one should enter "08", "15", "09". That's all there is to it.
One caveat - it may be me, but I find that the readout is more difficult to read on the black cased unit as opposed to my Polder which has a white case. There is no difference in clarity of the displays, so it is probably the contrast which makes the Polder's display a bit easier to use. This may be something to consider if the user has vision problems.
I definitely recommend this unit over the Polder as it is nearly identical (Polder has changed the stop/clear button colors on the newer units.) at a significantly lower price. In fact, I would take advantage of Amazon's 4 for 3 deal and purchase multiple units. One can never have too many timers!

Farberware Millennium Soft Touch Stainless-Steel 12-Inch Nonstick Skillet Review

Farberware Millennium Soft Touch Stainless-Steel 12-Inch Nonstick Skillet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first bought this pan I was replacing a pan from a moderately priced set from Costco. That pan lasted about 3 years and I got my money's worth.
The positive review from America's Test Kitchen is what pointed me in this direction. The Farberware pan was a joy to use when I first bought it and I loved the even heat. All of the positive comments are accurate at first.
The problem is it only lasted 3 months before it lost it's nonstick properties almost completely. I never used spray on oil or subjected it to high heat. I was always very meticilous about the way I cleaned it and never touched the surface with anything but plastic. I even bought a special soft plastic cleaning brush so as to be very delicate with the surface.
I have been using nonstick skillets since they first came out many years ago. With the exception of one ultra cheapo model I have NEVER had a nonstick that had its nonstick go bad so quickly. Of course I can send this back to Farberware but it seems clear that if it has lost it's nonstick properties they only have to say it was my fault. Why waste $10 in shipping costs? This is my last Farberware product.
After writing this first part of the review I thought it would only be fair to email Farberware to let them respond. After doing some googling I have found that there is no email. It is also basically impossible to get someone on the phone. They sold their warranty service to a different company, All American Lighting in Berwick, PA. As it turns out this company gets terrible feedback for their service. If this isn't really Farberware what exactly is their incentive to provide good service? You can check on consumeraffairs dot com and other places and you'll get an eyeful. BUYER BEWARE!

Lodge Logic Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Spiral Handle Review

Lodge Logic Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Spiral Handle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my eagerly-awaited Dutch oven a couple days ago and made some chili to try it out. It works great, with excellent heat retention... good for browning beef at higher temperatures, and bubbles merrily away even at low heat. Great for anything you want to simmer long and low for the best flavor.
An added bonus - the lid from this Dutch oven also fits the Logic 10-1/4" skillet if required.
To clean, I fill it with hot water, boil a bit to lift the grease, then rinse with hot water and wipe with a paper towel, using a bit of nylon mesh from an onion bag for any stubborn bits, then dry and re-oil.
A couple notes:
If you receive a Logic Dutch oven and find a couple gobs of sticky, brown, almost rust-colored stuff on the handle flange, it is likely NOT rust. Because of the shape of this pot, the pre-seasoning process sometimes leaves a bit of extra, thickened oil in this location. If this is the case, it can be easily rubbed off with a fingertip, much like rubber cement.
The pre-seasoning is very effective, but the inside of the lid, well-designed to keep moisture inside the pot, is a vulnerable spot. Depending on what you cook, the inside of the lid will likely require additional seasoning; I only oiled the cooking surfaces and the first use (no tomato, but enough water to simmer the chili) removed much of the seasoning between the self-basting points. No rust, so it was a simple matter of wiping the inside surface of the lid with peanut oil and putting it in a 450 degree (F) oven a couple times. I'd suggest doing this to the lid before use, and any time the seasoning in this location appears to be thinning. I did not lower my rating for this, as its simply the nature of the beast, not a design or manufacturing flaw.

Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot - 5 Liter - ME7409 Review

Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot - 5 Liter - ME7409
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot on my wish list for years. I at long last finally made the purchase when I found the 7.5.Litre size recently through an Amazon link for $119 and free shipping!!! It is the German fermentation stoneware crock by Harsch Steinzeug and has no labelling for Miracle (the sole importer) as it is shown at Amazon. (Mine just arrived from Germany. It was on back order for some time).
This fermentation crock pot is highest quality as you might expect from German craftsmen. It truly is the Mercedes Benz of stoneware fermentation pots. It is made of stoneware and covered with a lead-free glazing. It is beautiful and easy to handle, clean and use.
The unique Harsch method of fermentation is proven. The crock includes 2 stoneware weighing stones which replace the wooden board and cloth of other methods. (If you've ever done fermentation that way, you know the problems you can have). Furthermore the lid has a deep water groove which provides an airtight sealing that prevents undesired yeast from forming. Clear instructions are included as well as some basic recipes.
I debated for a long time between the 5 litre and 7.5 litre crocks. I ended up choosing the 7.5 litre size. (There are also larger ones ranging from 10 to 50 litres). I was a little afraid that I had chosen a crock much too large for just a single person like myself but I'm very glad I settled on the 7.5L. It's perfect although I would still like the 5L too so I can being doing a smaller batch of some other food such as kimchi or pickles fermenting at the same time.
I do have 4 large heads of organic cabbage, about 12 lbs, filling the 7.5L to capacity and fermenting beautifully right now. Considering how much I have to spend each week on store-bought organic, unpasteurized sauerkraut or other cultured vegetables ~ my Harsch crock is going to pay for itself in no time! I am anticipating 8 one quart Mason jars of finished kraut
I love my beautiful Harsch crock, definitely would buy it all over again and hope to do just that soon!

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Stockpot with Cover Review

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Stockpot with Cover
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased this 12qt stockpot with a pasta insert and cover, and I couldn't be more pleased. The pot is beautifully made, with very confortable handles (another reviewer noted the finger grips -- a nice touch) and the lid fits perfectly.
I used it for the first time to cook 2 chickens and make stock. Both chickens fit easily in the pot, yet allowed enough space for adequate water. It was very easy to bring the pot to a boil and then reduce to a very slow simmer, just a bubble or two breaking the surface. I used the simmer burner on my gas stove, and for the first time was able to maintain a simmer with the lid tightly on. With my old stockpot (large enough for only one chicken) even with the simmer burner at the lowest setting I could not maintain a simmer with the lid tightly on the pot.
The pasta insert made it a breeze to remove the chickens when they were cooked, and reduce the stock while I picked the meat off the bones and returned the bones to the pot in the insert to cook longer, more fully flavoring the broth. Removing the insert removed the bones and other parts, making straining the stock a simple one-step process. This same process with the pasta insert will make blanching vegetables from the garden MUCH easier and faster, and I'm looking forward to freezing the veggies from next summer's garden.
The pot is weighty and solid, yet With a full pot of water I can still lift and carry it, which I could never manage with an All-Clad 12qt stockpot.
I like this pot so much I just today ordered the Chef's Classic 7 piece set with bonus 2 1/2 qt sautee pan. I can hardly wait to have a lobster feed and sacrifice some of Maine's finest lobsters in this pot, served with sides cooked up in pots from my new set. I highly reccomend this stockpot and this cookware line.

Ordered this last week and received it last week with Amazon's wonderful 2 day shipping. I cooked a 22lb turkey in this and it cooked it wonderfully. The turkey was delicious and very moist. I loved using it because it saved so much space in the oven. The only negative thing was the skin on top of the breast did not get crispy, but other then that the flavor was delicious. Will be using this on Christmas to cook a ham in.

I couldn't do without this product especially on holidays. Very few people have enough ovens to handle all the roasting, baking and heating that goes on at that time. Wolfgang Puck WPMBS010 Mini Buffet Server/Warming Tray with 3 1-1/2-Quart Chafing Dishes Review

Wolfgang Puck WPMBS010 Mini Buffet Server/Warming Tray with 3 1-1/2-Quart Chafing Dishes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
THIS FOOD WARMER IS FANTASTIC!!!! I have had mine for several years and absolutely love it! I bought mine to use on Thanksgiving. All the cooks out there responsible for the Thanksgiving feast know the cook is usually eating cold food. After letting all your guests serve themselves, making sure everyone has everything, & then getting your food, it's cold. I HATE COLD GRAVY. So after years of cold gravy, asparagus, and sweet potato pudding, I bought this warmer!! That Thanksgiving I gave thanks for family, my many blessings and for my HOT GRAVY!! This item is so great, you can dial temps. from low to high. Food stays warm for as long as need be. And being able to put food in the warming trays way ahead of the actual meal allows you to sit down to dinner without being harried and rushed.....you don't have to worry that the food is on the table getting cold. My warmer stays out year round.
This item is great for entertaining, holidays, parties, or just busy families with kids that have extra curricular activities & come home to supper at different times.
I have dozens of Wolfgang Puck items-everything-from his cookware to his cutlery & although I like them all, this is my FAVORITE.

Great for entertaining during the holidays or any special event, this versatile buffet server features three 1-1/2-quart chafing dishes that can keep three different dishes warm and ready to serve--anything from scrambled eggs, sausage links, and pancakes to mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. Three clear polycarbonate lids come included with indentations on top for lifting and a slot in the front of each for serving utensils. The unit's adjustable thermostat ranges from 155 to 205 degrees F, and its simple control knob makes it easy to set the unit to low, medium, or high heat. Best of all, the stainless-steel base doubles as a stand-alone 14-3/4-by-8-1/4-inch warming tray for keeping appetizers, side dishes, and more at an ideal serving temperature. Other highlights include a red "on" and a green "ready" indicator light, stay-cool side handles for safe transport, and four non-stick feet that ensure stability without scratching. Nesco 4805-12 5-Quart Electric Roaster, Red Review

Nesco 4805-12 5-Quart Electric Roaster, Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am giving it three stars because of its poor quality. This unit is not up to the standards of my old 4-quart Nesco roaster oven. This unit is manufactured in China and the quality shows. I will start looking for appliances manufactured in Europe and pay the price for the quality.
WARNINGS:
1.The unit gets EXTREMELY hot even the control knob.
2.Do the initial burn-in outdoors. This unit smoked for 45 minutes giving off harsh smelling fumes. This unit will need a burn in time of hours because it still has a harsh smell when heated. I am wondering if the smell is not the internal parts melting
3.Do not leave this unit unattended when doing the burn-in or cooking.
4.DO NOT allow children near this unit.
Before cooking in the unit, I decided to test how accurate the dial temperature settings were. I used a Taylor analog oven thermometer and set the units temperature dial to 275 degrees. I allowed the unit to preheat as directed in the owner's manual. After the preheating time I removed the lid and discovered the internal temperature was 350 degrees. I confirmed the Taylor thermometer reading with a Fluke model 62 IR (infrared) digital thermometer. I will test the unit again at a different setting later this week. I will make notes in the owner's manual so that I do not ruin a meal because of inaccurate temperature dial listings.
