(More customer reviews)What a great looking unit -- too bad the sleek stainless steel outside hides a lousy inside!
My wife and I have been looking a more updated unit to replace our 15 year old electric range oven. We thought we found a unit that was both functional, sleek and useful. For the two months that the unit worked, it was actually a great range oven. We found ourselves using the upper oven (although smaller of the two) more than 95% of the time. It heated up quickly and baked evenly. The stove top is also designed thoughtfully and the control unit, while not as advanced as some other units, was very functional and surprisingly intuitive to use.
The unit broke down after just two months of use (bought on Sep 10, 2010 and broke on Nov 4, 2010). The unit shut down completely and when it re-powered, the "door locked" indicator was on. While the stove top was still functional, neither of the ovens were. The GE technician looked at the unit for about three minutes, ordered a bunch of parts and left. The follow up appointment was rescheduled by dispatch, without notification. GE Customer Service was useless (but at least they all spoke English). Now we're stuck without an oven for Thanksgiving holidays with family coming to town. Will call the store we bought the unit from and see if we can return it. Searching around there are more reports of control board circuit boards being "fried" by the oven, so this is not an isolated incident. Do not buy this unit until the problem is resolved.

Proctor Silex Traditions 74388 Electric Knife, White Review

This Proctor Silex is heavy and too large in diameter - not for arthritic hands - and the first use to slice an Artisan Loaf of bread was such a trial that I gave it up and used my regular bread knife. This was not purchased from Amazon but rather from a local retailer and now I'm shopping Amazon to find a good electric knife - which is what I should have done in the first place. Hope the Amazon reviewers of electric knives are telling their true opinions of the electric knives recently purchased.

Functioning as a portable second oven, this 18-quart electric roaster oven not only roasts, but it also bakes, cooks, steams, slow cooks, and more. Quilted Ivory Kitchen Aid Extra Large Mixer Appliance Cover Review

(More customer reviews)I had been looking for reasonably priced appliance covers for my kitchen in unobtrusive, non-clashing colors for quite some time when I decided to buy several of them from Altmeier's BedBathHome shop at Amazon. The items I got were fine and fit my appliances perfectly, but this is more a review of the vendor than the items themselves. (I couldn't find a way to update my "customer feedback" for the vendor after having further experience with them.)
When I received the items I ordered through Amazon I also received a coupon I could use if I shopped at the vendor's web site. Since it turned out that the cover I bought for my mixer was also a good fit for my slow cooker, I decided to go to the site and use the coupon there. I ordered another cover plus a few additional items - one of which I inadvertently selected in the wrong color when placing my order. I didn't realize my mistake until the items arrived, at which point I followed the included instructions regarding returns and exchanges and filled out the online form to request an exchange. Since the mix-up was my error I would've been perfectly happy to pay all the additional shipping costs involved in the process.
I requested the exchange on a Friday evening and on Monday received an email letting me know it was "in the works" - then I received a link to the return shipping label that they had already set up at UPS. I printed out the label, returned the item I had, and within a few days had the one I wanted back in exchange for it. And, much to my surprise, I was not charged any additional shipping costs for either item and the question of additional shipping charges was never even mentioned in any of the customer service correspondence even though the mistake was clearly mine and mine alone.
As a result, Altmeier's BedBathHome has a new customer who will definitely be checking out their products first, both at their own site and here at Amazon, when I am looking to make future purchases. An A+ experience all around!

Staub Round Cocotte Review

(More customer reviews)I have to admit, having used Le Creuset for years, I didn't hold out much hope that this pot - gifted to me - could possibly be an improvement. The things that I value in an enameled pot were there: heavy enameled, cast iron construction; oven-proof handle; even heat distribution; gas stove-top to oven ease. But that lid? It just didn't seem like it would make that much difference. Boy! Am I happy to be proved wrong!
This pot has out-performed my Le Creuset repeatedly in the two weeks that I've put it through its paces. Sautéeing, braising, stewing, oven-baked casseroles, soup; you name it, this pot has done an exceptional job. Those little bumps on the lid keep everything so much more moist. Also, there is virtually no loss of liquid volume with the lid on. It's an incredibly tight seal. The clean-up is a breeze! And, esthetically, the grenadine glaze is gorgeous!
It is so worth the price, I just purchased the 8 quart round Cocotte for large-batch cooking. I'm definitely a convert!

I just bought the double before Christmas from Costoo and it worked out great when I needed a little extra space for warm stuff but didn't have enough to put in a Crock Pot. Can't go wrong for the prices they're being sold for either. You can use the warmer with or without the trays. It works great as a flat warmer, I do put down aluminum foil so there's not so much to clean up.

Health Smart Open Faced Indoor/ Outdoor Grill Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great grill for those who like to grill steaks but cannot use a gas/charcoal outdoor grill for whatever reason. The last apartment I lived would not allow ANY grilling outdoors (which is really sick as I live in South Florida and it is currently the only US region that is not freezing this Jan 2, 2009 with the exception of Hawaii). I was skeptical at first but this grill does great work on those thick sirloin steaks we buy at Costco. I had mine for probably 7-8 years 1-2 times a week before it recently just quit heating up. The non-stick surface had worn away some time ago but who cares it still cooked great steaks. That's pretty much all I used it for other than toasting garlic bread.
I didn't even realize you could use it outdoors until I starting searching online for it this week.
It is not the same as a gas or charcoal grill. I have a charcoal grill at my building where I live now but by the time you lug the charcoal, fluid, utensils, etc down the elevator to the community grill, light the coals and then WAIT for them to get red hot, we still use this little grill more often. You don't have to have all the planets aligned to use this one on a weeknight (weather, charcoal, fluid, and TIME!).
I don't know why people complain about it being slow I always used the highest setting and could sear and grill 1-2 inch thick steaks to medium well in 20 minutes. I have never owned a gas grill so I can't compare, but it's a whole lot easier, convenient & faster than charcoal grilling that's for sure. You can't get the taste of over the fire grilling of course, but they sure are tasty in their own right when I shake granulated garlic and freshly grind black pepper on the steaks before grilling.

You fill the chamber with water until the glass vile shows that it is full. You then place the pot on the stove (gas or electric) and the contents heat very gently. Just this past weekend, my friend and I made chocolate bark for about 50 people and huge amounts of chocolate melted in what seemed like a few minutes and we never had to worry about burning the chocolate or getting water into it. I recommend this pot to anyone who cooks or bakes regularly.

(More customer reviews)I have hoped to find a true competitor to Le Creuset for years, one that was more affordable and of the same quality. Staub fills the bill, and fills it with style. This cocotte is large enough to accomodate a good-sized chicken, and is perfect for slow-cooked stews and braises. The interior coating is easy to clean and effectively non-stick. While its weight may be a deterrent for some, it is so attractive that it can be left on the stovetop or on a counter for easy access. It is my best purchase of the year and I look forward to using it for years to come.

(More customer reviews)The simermat is rather thin. From the picture, I expected some heavy cast iron something. My initial impression was not great. BUT, then we used the simmermat. It really does what is advertised. Having a gas stove, we have always had to precariously stack two or three stove burner racks on top of one another, and still could not simmer without sticking and scorching. Excuse my terminology. I may not describe with the proper part names, but you get the picture. Well, after using the simmermat three times I asked, "what do you think?". My wife's answer was "Buy another one!" So here I am, leaving a comment, and buying another one.

WMF Stainless Steel Expandable Trivet Review

(More customer reviews)Stainless steel is the way to go and is what my first expandable trivet is made, with twelve plastic caps for the SS legs.to sit on and not produce any scratches. I bought it purposely for use in the bottom of my HB slow cooker. It fits and does its job perfectly. When cooking is done it's fairly easy to clean.
Quite expandable it will serve many other uses. Should last almost a lifetime. Shipping was ahead of schedule. Highly recommended.UPDATE: Not highly recommended since the plastic caps I found, after first one fell out, ooze faulty black adhesive and black gook will line your cooker. ...the next 11 (loose) I pulled out myself. Smarten up: Stainless is great - but mfr. should un-gook those horrid leg-caps. Might even be POISON!
