Health Smart Open Faced Indoor/ Outdoor Grill Review

This is a great grill for those who like to grill steaks but cannot use a gas/charcoal outdoor grill for whatever reason. The last apartment I lived would not allow ANY grilling outdoors (which is really sick as I live in South Florida and it is currently the only US region that is not freezing this Jan 2, 2009 with the exception of Hawaii). I was skeptical at first but this grill does great work on those thick sirloin steaks we buy at Costco. I had mine for probably 7-8 years 1-2 times a week before it recently just quit heating up. The non-stick surface had worn away some time ago but who cares it still cooked great steaks. That's pretty much all I used it for other than toasting garlic bread.
I didn't even realize you could use it outdoors until I starting searching online for it this week.
It is not the same as a gas or charcoal grill. I have a charcoal grill at my building where I live now but by the time you lug the charcoal, fluid, utensils, etc down the elevator to the community grill, light the coals and then WAIT for them to get red hot, we still use this little grill more often. You don't have to have all the planets aligned to use this one on a weeknight (weather, charcoal, fluid, and TIME!).
I don't know why people complain about it being slow I always used the highest setting and could sear and grill 1-2 inch thick steaks to medium well in 20 minutes. I have never owned a gas grill so I can't compare, but it's a whole lot easier, convenient & faster than charcoal grilling that's for sure. You can't get the taste of over the fire grilling of course, but they sure are tasty in their own right when I shake granulated garlic and freshly grind black pepper on the steaks before grilling.

If you live alone as I do and don't cook big meals this is perfect - the timed cooking grills to perfection. With a little added rub, it tastes right off the grill. Very easy to clean - I grilled a steak (5 min for rare) presprayed the grids w/nonstick spray popped them in the dishwasher and they came out sparkling. No mess - no grease all over like a certain George we know and small enough to be left out all the time. Highly recommend.

Hamilton Beach 25331 Super Sear 100-Square-Inch Nonstick Indoor Searing Grill Review

The "Sear" button works pretty well, and the grill makes great food, and fast. I find I use it often to grill meats, fish, vegetables. The grills are not removable for dishwasher cleaning, but they aren't too hard to clean with the nonstick surfaces. The item seems substantially built. No complaints, quite pleased.

Enjoy the taste of grilled foods all year long with this easy-to-use countertop appliance. The unit provides 100 square inches of cooking surface for grilling summer vegetables or up to four burgers at a time, while its floating hinge accommodates thicker sandwiches or steaks. Unlike most grills that only go up to 400 degrees F, the searing grill quickly heats up to 500 degrees F for properly grilling steaks, capturing all the flavorful juices plus searing the meat with tantalizing grill marks. Most meats grill in 10 minutes or less, so dinner's ready in no time. The appliance's appeal lies not only in its simplicity and countertop convenience, but also in its fat-fighting ability. Its design channels fat away from food and into a large dishwasher-safe drip tray. Other highlights include a digital display, adjustable temperature controls, an illuminated sear button, a stay-cool handle, and a nonstick coating that ensures effortless food release and quick cleanup. The searing grill measures approximately 14 by 13-4/5 by 7-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Weber 2820 Smokey Mountain Cooker/Smoker Review

Weber 2820 Smokey Mountain Cooker/Smoker

The Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) is really the king of the bullet smokers. You may be tempted to go with a cheaper Brinkmann model, and if your budget just can't afford the WSM, then you can do some prefectly acceptible bbq on the brinkmann.
But if you can afford the extra for the WSM, you will get much better temperature control, and getting good temperature control means you can keep a good consistent low temeperature for doing some truly outstanding smoke cooking.
I am by no means an expert on the subject, only having used my WSM about 10 times. Even so, I have been getting results better than any ribs I have tasted at any restaurant (with the exception of real honest to goodness BBQ joints that cook over hardwood for 12 hours plus...). You can tell real barbecue because it has a pink smoke ring in the meat, which I always get when I use the WSM.
You will want to check on the net for the virtual WSM web page, it has a lot of information, and I found the info there a lot more useful than the methods recommended in the owner's manual.
This cooker is not for the impatient who want instant results, your first few times using it may be frustrating until you learn to control where the temperature is going, not where it is right now. But stick with it and you will start to make some truly great bbq. And understand that you are going to be cooking low and slow, which means it is going to take 4, 5, 6 hours or more to do ribs, but once you get the hang of it, they will be some of the best ribs you have tasted.
More than a fair number of barbecue champions use the WSM get results as good as if not better than those guys using the $1000 plus offset pits. The WSM is a great value and the perfect starter "pit" for someone thinking about getting into serious barbecue.
(You can do yourself a favor by using hickory wood chunks as part of the fuel, and real lump charcoal, not briquettes. Briquettes are nice and all, but they are filled with clay and other impurities, really if you are going to the trouble of using charcoal instead of gas, go with real charcoal if you can find it)
