(More customer reviews)I don't like the idea of consuming any more harmful chemicals into my body so I bought this. The whole pot is made of zisha clay. They also give you a steam zisha tray. However, the construction is not as consistent and as good as Japanese cookers. Mine arrived with the lights and buttons working in a funny way. Also, the warm rice button is not working. No green light after the rice is done. I only used for 1 time with Japanese rice using the Chinese rice mode.(Update: the second time I use it, the cooker is completly NOT WORKING! I plugged in and it's just blank! Can't cook rice at all.) The rice is pretty nice. Nothing stick to the bottom so that's the good part. I'll going to contact the seller to see if they can exchange for another one for me. I love the idea but due to its flimsy construction, I would NOT recommend it.
Update: After 1 year of using it, it broke down. I believe it's the electrical circut problem. I highly recommand the Tiger or other Japanese brand. I used to own Japanese cook pot and they all still works after years of using it. Tiger 10 cup cooker is as small as this bulky rick cooker. Please go buy a reputable Japanese brand instead.

(More customer reviews)I would NOT recommend this product to anyone unless you are in a hurry and need your food cooked in less than one hour!
I bought as a replacement for the Zisha Slowcooker only because the seller recommended it. I was very disappointed in the
slowcooker, as it too cooked my food in less than three hours and that was at the slowest setting mind you. Little did I realize
the speedy soup pot would cook even faster:-( If you work and want your food to cook at a slow pace, then this is NOT for you.I contacted the seller about my concerns again, he tried to sell me yet another product, but this time I didn't fall for it, and in the end,
he said he would refund me my money and let me keep the products (which I had plan to send back after getting my check), but sadly
the check never arrived. That was on February 11, 2011.

(More customer reviews)I could not be more pleased with the VitaClay rice cooker! It is everything I hoped it would be.
I probably invested about $1000 of my time researching rice cookers before making this purchase. I was very concerned about the VitaClay due to prior reviews I read here. I called VitaClay's manufacturer twice and I also did research at a lot of other sites. Ultimately, I decided to take a chance on the VitaClay, but I also planned to order a purely stainless steel model too.
However, now that I have used the VitaClay for a week (cooking with it every day), I know this is the rice cooker for me. I do not need to look any further.
It cooks perfect brown rice. I have also cooked rice + mung dal in it many times. The food doesn't stick to the clay pot. The flavors are great.
I am satisfied that the quality of the clay pot is good. It passes California's tough regulations. These days I hesitate to purchase anything from China, but I'm comfortable that this product is safe.
The rice cooker does not give off any unusual smells. My concerns about potential toxic materials in the cooker have disappeared after inspecting and using it. The construction quality is very high. It is super easy to clean. The controls are easy to use. The design looks nice. I feel I got a lot of value for my money.
UPDATE:
I have had my VitaClay rice cooker for almost two years now. i like it more than ever. It has held up well. It still looks like new even though I use it almost every day. I have had zero problems with it.
BTW, the heating element does not come into contact with the food. The heating element is outside of the clay pot. The food only touches the clay. And, at the time I purchased mine, the owner of the company told me they do not use a non-stick coating on the heating element.
Is there a better and safer rice cooker on the market anywhere? I have not found one. I think the VitaClay rice cookers are the best available - and the price is incredibly low too. If I ever find myself in a position to give a rice cooker as a gift, I will only give a VitaClay. And I will not cook with anything else myself.
