The problem with most modern slow cookers (even the newest Rival models) is they put 600W elements in
them and they cook way too fast (the reason is that people used to run the old crock pots without the lids and get
food poisoning because it would never reach 160F). Either that or they go cheap and put in a teflon coated steel
crock. This was only one of a few "real" slow cookers that I could find with digital controls.

- taller-then-wide crock (this is better then the common short-and-wide --
it allows the water to convect and holds in the heat better)
- removable ceramic crock
- pretty good materials and build quality
I put it up in a head-to-head battle with our old 5qt Rival from the 70s:
Old 5qt Rival ---------------------
* 180W@low, 245W@high
* crock content temperature when set at LOW:
- 155F @ 3hr
- 175F @ 4hr
- 190F @ 5hr
- 193F @ 6hr
* crock content temperature when set at HIGH:
- 208F @ 6hr
Notes: The outside of the pot got scalding hot after 2 hours.

Notes:
- The outside of the pot could be touched without getting burned
even on HIGH.
- On HIGH, the contents came to a light simmer
- It always uses the same power however it controls the
temperature with on-off cycles with the thermostat
Summary ---------------
I've done a lot of research and in my opionion the MSC-570 is a real slow
cooker and in that regard is arguably the best slow cooker on the market
today (KitchenAid makes a really good slow cooker but it has reliability problems).
It is actually a very popular slow cooker in the UK sold under a different name.
Given its price it is a bargain.
